Ask:
My 4 year old has been potty trained for quite a while now but I still put her in pull-ups before bed. She does good for a week or so and then has a wet night. I tried for a few nights in the summer with just undies and she wet each night! What made it worse is my 2 year old shares the bed with her so it woke both of them up and I had to change the bedding, etc and then get up and go to work in the morning!
So, does anyone have advice? I don't give her drinks after 7:30 and have her pee right before bed. I feel bad for her because she wants to be a big girl so bad and wants to sleep in undies.
Answer:
We never used anything at night, and never had an accident. I think the best thing to do is cut off drinks atleast 2 hours before bedtime. Otherwise the bladder will need to empty while she is sleeping.
Answer:
We still put them in them occaisionally. It just depends on what we have done that day/night etc. If I know there might be an issue and I am tired, I put them in pullups. I don't see anything wrong with it.
I don't believe in cutting off liquids. If I am thirsty at 10pm, I get a drink so why shouldn't my children? I just don't believe in it. They don't get a lot to drink, but they can certainly have a sip of water. There is a difference between being thirsty and procrastinating going to bed though.
I am beginning to think my 6 year old has an issue and we will be addressing it with his doctor at his next check up in March. He has more accidents than most kids his age and he sleeps so soundly he just doesn't wake up. We wake him up to go potty (sort of holding him up really as he pees) before we go to bed to try to avoid things, but he has been having quite a few accidents whether he drinks or not before bed.
Answer:
I never used them with my oldest four children. Then, with number five, I just didn't have enough in me to fight the bedtime fight. So, she wore them for about a year at night. No, she didn't wet everynight. Sometimes, she would go a week or more without being wet, BUT, like you, I just didn't want to change those sheets!! She gradually extended the amount of time she stayed dry...and she hasn't wet the bed in over a year. Now, instead, we have our youngest in them at night. She rarely ever has a daytime accident, but no matter if we cut off her liquids early or not, she still wets every few days...SOAKING a pullup. I just figure it is worth my sanity to pay for the pullups!!!
Answer:
I also use them at night. My youngest is the size of a 2 yr old so therefor I have to put them on him.
Answer:
My dd(now 4), no we didn't, she never had an accident day or night, she was easy. My 2yr ds- yes, he still wears overnights. Every few nights he won't be dry and I am being lazy not having to change the sheets constantly. I do limit liquids also to 2 hours before bedtime and they go potty before getting into bed.
Answer:
This definately is a case by case bases thing. Keep doing what your doing. Put her in pull ups till she keeps them dry and then to panties. Maybe plastics over the panties. When my son was at this stage the doctor said you can't train them in the night. There are other factors, the ability to hold it or to wake up when you have to go. It'll happen when it happens. No worry's!
Answer:
I say, take them off her and see what happens! My dd would wet if she had a diaper on (they did not have pull ups back then) but if I put her in underwear, she kept them dry!! The diaper was like permission for her to wet.
Answer:
My oldest ds who is 6 just started wearing underwear to bed regularly in the past month. He is a heavy sleeper and just didn't wake up. I also don't like withholding water either. He wasn't wet every night with the pull-ups, but often enough that I hated changing the sheets. We started underpants even though he wasn't dry consistently because he was very embarrased and would beg us all the time to wear underpants. I just went out and bought a large crib pad to put under him and it has worked out fine. Honestly he has only been wet a handfull of times since wearing the underpants. I did talk to his pediatrician when he was 5 and he told us that we shouldn't worry until he was 9. I'm glad it didn't take that long, but some kids just do.
Answer:
5 yo DD is still in them at night. She will be wet maybe 3-4 mornings a week. To me that's not good enough to go to underwear at night. She will stop when she's ready. She is a deep sleeper.
