months ago and his behavior has been a ready-to-please, very loving dog to all people who have come into our home. He just finished the last of his puppy shots so he has not been out in public too long. About 2 weeks ago my neighbor was trying to play with him while I was not home. My mom was home with the puppy and did not see exactly what happened. My neighbor was chasing the dog through our rooms and moving his arms about (this is something that my other dog loved as a puppy). All of a sudden, my mom heard the dog yelp very loudly and my neighbor told her that he did not know why….he did not step on the puppy. Since that time, we noticed that the dog has started barking at strangers and will not play or socialize with anyone but my husband and myself. Prior to this incident, he was happy to play with our grandchildren and welcomed strangers. Could this incident have changed his behavior? How can I correct his behavior if I don’t know exactly what happened to him?
Answer:
HAVE YOU TAKEN HIM TO THE VET? JUST TO MAKE SURE HE IS OK? SHOW HIM LOVING AND ALLOW HIM TO SIT WITH YOU WHILE THE CHILDREN ARE PLAYING WITH HIM... THAT WAY HE WILL UNDERSTAND THAT ITS STILL OK TO PLAY... I TOO HAD A MINI DACHSHUND WHO LOVED TO PLAY.. BUT WAS VERY FRIGHTENED UNTIL HE UNDERSTOOD THAT IT WAS OK...

Hi, We did make an appointment for the vet next week just to check him out. I will also take your suggestion and sit down with some people who are not immediate members of the household and try playing with him. I feel so bad that this happened but I guess patience and consistency might help turn him around. He was so happy to see people before this event with my neighbor. Thanks for your suggestions.
