Answer:
It's not "emo", they're more indie really. The current emo scene generally refers to bands like Coheed and Cambria, Thursday and early Fall Out Boy. I'd definetly class Snow Patrol as indie, along with bands like Idlewild (who you might like as well, I'd highly recommend 100 Broken Windows) or maybe even Bright Eyes. And sod what other people think, you like it, you listen to it. If you want wrist cutter music then it's Leonard Cohen you should check out!
Answer:
no not at all, ur not the only one, my boyfriend always says the same bout that type of music but i love it!!!
Answer:
No. They're not emo. I would classify them britpop/rock/shoegaze(maybe). & I don't know if they would be considered indie because they were around way before the whole indie craze...
Answer:
Yes. But who cares? If you like them, you like them. I like Joy Division, and they are classic emo.
Answer:
why does it have to be put into any category? i think it's crap though-just my opnion :)
Answer:
Emo does not equal depressing music, and vice versa. Some emo bands, like Reggie & the Full Effect (though one, I suppose, could argue they are power pop) are actually quite hilarious. Rites of Spring, considered to be one of the first emo bands, is very heavy and angry. If all depressing bands were emo, then The Smiths would be emo, and they're not. Emo, in its purest sense, simply stands for "emotional," which in turn is short for, believe it or not, "emotional hardcore." By the end of the original hardcore era, bands like Fugazi and Dag Nasty were beginning to be featured on Dischord Records, who originally housed hardcore punk acts like Minor Threat and Youth Brigade, among others. True emo is an extension of the hardcore scene, which was an extension of the punk scene. Lately, however, the term has come into common usage as internet slang, and the original meaning has been lost due to its excessive use. Emo is a style of music just like any other, and includes a lifestyle to go with it. However, unlike what most people think, the emo lifestyle is not about wrist-cutting or bi-polarity and depression. In fact, two of my really good friends, who are the most hilarious and joyful people I've ever met, are tried and true emo. They don't have bangs or wear Chuck Taylors and listen to To Write Love On Her Arms or anything. If you saw them, you'd think they were just normal dudes. They appreciate fine art, film, and poetry, and take more from the Beatniks than the punks and hardcore kids who came before them. Finally, asw, Joy Division was not at all emo. They were around way before emo was even an afterthought. Original emo is circa 1986-89. Joy Division was 1976-80. Really good emo bands from back in the day: Dag Nasty, Fugazi, Rites of Spring, Husker Du.
