HOW MUCH MORE MUST I PAY

Ask:
In October 2006, I went into the South Carolina Department of Correction to pay for my wrong doings, while at the Reception and Evaluation Center I fell due to over crowding hitting my head on a steel tolit with three men packed into a two man cell. The fall broke my neck and for a year I suffered in fear for my life. In the cours of that year I was transported by ambulance to the hospitial on four or five occations only to be misdiagnos, but not withouth a recomendation to the South Carolina Department of Correction Medical Staff that I be taken to see a Neurologist but, that never happen. Over time my symptoms worsen and the numbness increased on the right side of my body and my request for medical attention ended with a medical staff member telling me, the South Carolina Department of Correction would not spend any money on my medical situation. Because of this action by the time I was released on October 1,2007 I was in bad shape after a fifth visit to the emergency room I became completely paralyzed a columbia Neurosurgeon ordered an MRI which showed I had a Crushed Vertebra and needed spinal cord repair, sence that time I have had a second surgery and continue in pain without the use of my right side. I can’t work and The State of South Carolina Won’t help me, I went to the local church and they wont help, so you tell me? How Much More Must I Pay, or is there help for a nobody.

Answer:
I assume you have no health insurance to cover this. Talk to a lawyer. That is your only recourse. He will be able to work the details of any possible case out with you. Most attorneys will do free consultations or charge a small fee ($25 or abouts). Stay away from the T.V. lawyers and ads promising large settlements. I might even suggest calling a local law school to see if they can offer you a few names of good attorneys in your area.
