I’m seventeen and I think I may be dyslexic.

Ask:
I don’t necessarily have too many problems with reading, but I have tons of other problems that are associated with dyslexia. I know that their accuracy is may be questionable, but I have taken dozens of online tests and assessments- all of which have labeled me as dyslexic.
The problem here is that my parents don’t believe me. My brother and sister don’t have any of the problems I do and therefore they think I am just being silly. I know that the only way to know for sure is to get assessed by a proffesional in this area. But my parents won’t let me go. I don’t drive (confuse right with left too many times), so I have no way to go by myself. What can I do? I’m just so frustrated!

Answer:
i'd go to your school councler and see if she can do anything to help, if not, i'd ask the nurse or something.
Answer:
Knowing you are dyslexic really doesn't help that much. What'll happen if it's proven? You might get extra time on test at school, but other than that, not much, especialy once you are out of highschool. And even profecionals screw up sometimes. I took all the tests with me school counsoler and I was diagnosed with dyslexcia. Three years later, I took a more thourough test and found out that I wasn't, and I read, spell and comprehend the way I do because of the way I was taught to read. If you were taught single word recognition, that might be why you have these problems.
Answer:
I think Mini is worth listening to. Eight months ago you had insomnia problems. I hope they are gone by now, without medication. I don't know ho much of it was serious problems, but I know for a fact that the knowledge of it is stressing and thus contributes to worsening the problem. It works the other way around as well. If you relax and don't take it so serious, much of a such problem may disappear. I think Xeno expressed it well in his answer to that post. Dyslexia is something different. But if you have managed until now, I don't think your dyslexia is very severe. On the other hand, the results of the online tests may make you worried and may therefore cause other problems. Just relax, a lot of really famous people have been found having dyslexia. If you are dyslectic at all, I don't think it is to an extent where you have to panick about it. Talk to your school doctor if you feel better by it, or wait until you are old enough to make your own decisions.
