the free space back and even though i deleted everything it still says half of the freespace is used up how do i get it back??? please help im so confused

Did you remove all of the music? That tends to hide in folders so you would need to remove it by using iTunes.

Not really, more like .Trashes, iTunes, Calendars, Contacts, Temporary Items, Notes. iPod_Control. those are the standard folders that are on my iPod. But mine is not a nano and it is really old.

Your iTunes library should be the music that is stored on your computer's hard drive, not your ipod. Your nano's music should have its own section. I did some research and found that if you use iTunes 7 you can restore your iPod Nano to it's factory settings, freeing up all of it's memory.
