Most people are afraid of any one different then them. Uniqueness, being different makes people uncomfortable. They are not quite sure what to expect. I think people also just plain enjoy making fun of others. I think for the majority of people it is simply that they have a low self esteem and they feel better about them selves when they put others down. It can also be peer pressure.

I agree with jo and lil, people pick on athers because they see something in that person that they want, most times it is because they are jelouse or lack confidence in themselves so by picking out other poeples weaknesses who are around them then they are avoiding their own. They say that when you stand up to a bully then they will back down, not always true but most occasions it works as they are just being strong on the outside.
