Secondly, i-pods and MP3s, can someone explain?

Ask:
I’m really out of touch and trying to decide if I need one/want one for x-mas. Can you get them with radios? What are your experiences? What kind of music can you get and how much do you spend on it per week or month? Do you feel like they give you privacy in crowded places?

Answer:
Ok, I have an mp3 player... NOT IPOD. I hate Ipods. You pay what you put into it. Personally I don't pay for mp3s... If you want to pay for mp3 music, get an iPod. I prefer ripping my music. You can rip your CDs to mp3, no problem. Ripping CDs is perfectly legal btw as long as it's your own CDs, and the music is for private use. You can also download mp3s for free many places, but since that's mostly illegal, I'm not gonna tell you where :O

Zune (by Microsoft) require some responsibility and care. If you want an all around product, get an iPhone or Windows Mobile.

Answer:
There is a lot of mp3's avialable. I have a 60 gig ipod, which was the biggest I could find when I bought mine. I like it because I don't have to pre-select only a certain number of songs to carry along with me. I can have a huge portion of library with me any time I want. I can also make playlists of all songs from a particular artist instead of just album by album, or the songs I want from each album. Or songs that fit one particular mood from many artists. I also write, and have mood/theme music depending on what I'm writing at the moment. I was initially against the whole idea of MP3 players, and I'm usually suspicious of new technology. I would even get annoyed when I saw people with ipods or whatever. I didn't see what was wrong with CD's. Now I'm hooked. I love my Ipod, and the freedom it gives me. Sadly I have so much music that I don't have enough room on my ipod, but there are bigger ones which I will eventually get. You can get books on "tape" to download on your ipod as well. I have Hithchiker's Guide to the Galaxy currently set up on mine. Because I have so much music, a phone that plays mp3's wouldn't work for me, but it might be great for other folks. I'm not all that tech savvy but I do believe there are different formats that are related to where you load tunes onto the Ipod from. I don't think the Zune will work with Itunes, or something like that.

Apple is coming out with the iPod Touch. The Touch allows you to have video, pics, music and web access to surf and to download music. I don't know how the market will be in the UK. I personally only have a 256mb MP3 player, and battery life is horrible. I am liking the iPods now primarily for iTunes. iTunes has a lot of music to offer, many times I can find hard to find music there too. I can also purchase the songs that I like, rather than the whole CD often for cheaper than a store bought CD costs. I like to also get tv shows that I like, and movies too. Apple also offers some of the best customer service and great software. I have done some of the "free" downloading in the past, and get annoyed when the quality of the song is horrible, or the song is imcomplete. Also when using peer to peer networking, I have inadvertently downloaded trojans and spyware like crazy. Not to mention that officials are cracking down more and more on illegal downloading. Though you are overseas and other nations have other laws. All in all, it would be nice to obtain free music, but I feel iTunes is offering a good idea.
