School skirts

NO.1. Ask :
School skirts
Hi,
Any mums know where its possible to by kilt style school skirts in either grey or navy in teen sizes ?
I have 3 daughters and after countless arguments about fashion I've decided to by more traditional school skirts this time, I managed to buy kilt styles for my 8 yr old without any trouble but getting them in larger sizes these days is virtually impossible.
Everywhere I look now seems to regard them as junior skirts and stop them at about 10 yrs.

Answer:
Oh dear Cathy, you're setting yourself up for some serious hatred and resentment here :( I know how I could make my Mum suffer for forcing me to wear proper school uniform, I admire your guts. I bought my goddaughters school uniform in New Look (after her Mum blew the money on fags and red wine - the pikey lush), they might be worth a look. Primark was good too.
Answer:
Hi,
I did try Debenhams and BHS without any luck but must admit I never thought about Asda or Primark so will take a look there later.
The ones I bought for my 8 yr old were from Woolies but even they dont sell senior sizes in kilt styles these days.
Cathy.

    Hey all!!!
Modesty, as always, is revamping the boards and has proposed three new boards :yay:
    Accessories
    Celeb styles
    Hot looks
    What do you all think?
    Answer:
I personally think it's ok as it is, I'm not sure that a celebrity styles one would get much use and hot new looks and accessories are what we mainly talk about in here
Maybe there would be need for accessories perhaps, to include, shoes, bags, jewellery, scarves etc, that may be an idea, dunno, what does everyone else think?
    Answer:
I agree with Bella! I'm not so sure really, I find it easier finding everything fashion related under 'fashion' - less clicking about (how lazy does that sound).
    Answer:
PLEASE, no more. This is not me being resistant to change, it's just perfect the way it is.
Please don't drive people away any more than has already happened.
    Answer:
I think just an accessories one would be good.

    NO.3. ask :
    Ebay refund
I won a demin skirt on ebay......it never arrived, so I email the seller twice, and never received a reply. (I won it on 16th December).
Last night I reported it to paypal, and i have received a full refund this morning.
My question is, do I leave positive feedback as I received a full refund? Or Neutral as I had to involve paypal or negative as she said she responded when she didn't?
    Answer:
If you don't feel comfortable leaving feedback then you are not obliged to leave it if you don't want. I once got left negative feedback because a buyer decided 10 days after winning the item that she didn't want it any more. I told her she could cancel the sale but I would have to go through the unpaid item process so I could get my fees back. A few days later she changed her mind and paid up and I sent her stuff first class recorded and she got it the next day. She then left negative feedback to say I was a very unhelpful and rude seller - never once had I been rude and she saw me as unhelpul as I would not cancel the sale and absorb all the listing fees! I even left her positive to say that I had received her payment, thank-you etc etc!
Sorry this probably hasn't been very helpful in advising which way you should go but you could just step back from it or you could warn others.
    Answer:
The seller deserves a neg, however,I would nt leave anything unless they have already left feedback as they are most likely to neg you in return!!
I know that this is not the way feedback should work, but thats the reality!!
    Answer:
I'd leave negative cos not once did she reply to the contact made by you!!!
Leave her negative on the very last day you can i.e in three months time - she won't be able to leave you retaliatory negative feedback in return!!!
    Answer:
thats true, although sometimes you can leave f/b after that time!!worth the risk though!
I forgot to say,I once got Paypal involved in a transaction where the FAMK's I bought were fakes, but in the end the seller refunded fully of her own accord,so I left her pos feedback.Your seller does deserve a neg though!

    NO.4. ask :
What do you wear your tuxedo jacket with?
I'm dying to wear the black tuxedo jacket I bought in the sales! I have to go to a birthday party on Sat so I though it would be an ideal opportunity to try it out! Not too sure how to wear it though  I'm thinking jeans and black stilletoes but what sort of top and what colour?
Would love to wear a silky cami or something in a really deep colour but I don't have one and I don't really want to go out and buy another top (have already spent waaay too much!!!).
Would love to hear what you girls wear so I can get some ideas!
    Answer:
Re: What do you wear your tuxedo jacket with?
Since tuxs are quite masculine, I'd go for something ultra-girly and feminine - a cami in a jewel colour sounds perfect :) Failing that, do you have anything velvety or chiffony, either in deep jewel colours or soft neutrals? A pretty halter necked top might work too, or even a low-necked embroidered/sequinned knitted vest or jumper.

    Answer:
Thanks for your reply geek_kitten - was beginning to think no wanted to talk to me!!
even a low-necked embroidered/sequinned knitted vest or jumper.
This sounds good - I have a v necked top in a really nice peacock blue and one in orange so think I'll try that out. I also have a new green top with really nice beading around the neckline but think the green might be a little to pastle to wear with the black - what do you think?
    Answer:
Jade green or emerald green would look fine, I think, but anything paler might not work - hard to say without seeing the top. Peacock blue could be fun though, especially with one or two silver or metallic accessories!

    Answer:
The Peacock sounds fab!!! Grren or blue with look fab with it!

  • What is going on with Monsoon?!

    NO.5. ask :
What is going on with Monsoon?!
Okay, so it's not at the cutting edge of fashion most seasons, and can tend towards frumpiness. But I got a few nice dresses in there last season and I usually like their palette of colours and that it has "collections" in tones, that are quite nice to look at, they look quite tidy IYSWIM?
But I'm finding all the new arrival stuff to be gaudy and none of the dresses seem to have a design idea in common (unless it's "lurid" or "pantomime").

There's the odd nice dress, e.g. this one:

but this one makes me think Ugly Sister!:
    http://www.monsoon.co.uk/invt/15206793
Anyway, just had to get that off my chest. And breathe :meditate:
    Answer:
I got the impression that Monsoon suffered particularly badly in the summer clothes retail disaster. The stores that I saw had acres of discounted stuff. Don't know if that has a bearing at all?
I went in a couple of times looking for discounted bikinis and cheap holiday basics and came out without either. It's not the best place for simple.
    Answer:
I think Monsoon is trying to be "trendier", what with the Fusion range and all (I wonder if this has been abandoned? there's no sight of it on the site now) but I'm not sure if it's the right direction for them, or rather, that they are going about trying to achieve that in the right way.
Just creating lots of formal dresses in acid hues with some plainly odd detailing does not "on-trend" make.
It's potentially risky and perhaps had an impact on their summer takings - Monsoon's prices are mid-to high end high street-wise, and a lot of their successes are things like classic dresses for balls/weddings and knitwear basics that last well and do not date. People tend to buy TS/Primark for trend-led, one-season wear items (even though TS is not quite as "affordable" or "disposable" as it used to be).
I don't know why I'm thinking in such depth about this :D I guess it's more interesting than Bengali conjuncts
    Answer:
That "nice" dress that you like is on Ebay (well there were a few a few weeks back). I was gonna get it for my b'day :)
    Answer:
I like the nice dress... the pantomine one isn't so bad, just a bit over priced and don't like that jewelled jangly bit in the middle.
I've never been a big fan of monsoon, did like a few bits last season and saw a dress I like recently, but I never usually go mad for much of their stuff.
