What (not) to wear - a challenge for you (HELP!)
Hello fashion baggers :)
I desperately need your help and honest advice. I've neglected my appearance for years and I've become frumpy and unattractive. I have a night-out on Friday and it's very important (to me) that I look good and feel good about myself.
The problems are:
I am short (about 5,1 or 5,2)
I am overweight by about 2 stones (which is a lot and looks a lot because of my height)
I am an apple shape with all the excess weight carried around my tummy
I have big boobs
I'm 37
I really need suggestions about possible outfits. I only have a budget of about £70 maximum for everything new to buy. My good points are that I have good skin, slim legs and nice hair :)
I would usually wear all black in an attempt to hide myself and make myself look slimmer but I really don't think it works and I end up looking dowdy AND fat.
What kind of things would look good on someone of my size, shape and age? I really need to find some flattering clothes which will help me to feel good about myself.
Thanks if you can help :)
Answer:
i would suggest that you show what you got.....
how about some black city shorts that arent too low on the hips so your tummy is slimmed out a bit...then some high funky peep toes? would you feel comfortable. you can get cheap city shorts from primark, and new look has loooooads of cheap and cheerful shoes. on top why dont you go for something fitted around the bust which is loose over your tummy? like a camisole? and a cardi to cover up?
i dont know really, just some suggestions!!
im sure you dont look half as bad as you say, always concentrate on your good points...lifes too short to be depressed about negative things!! and HAVE FUN!!
Answer:
Hi there! I find that if the tummy is where the problem is a two piece outfit is the best way forward. Personally I find that dresses just emphasise the tum. How about an a-line skirt to the knee - you should show off your fab legs. Fabulous shoes are a must. I tend to go for v-neck tops as I find them more flattering. Navy and browns are a good way to move out of black, or you could just wear black and accessorise with red or green!
Answer:
u could always check out the questionnaire on what not to wear for more advice about your shape:

I would suggest to show off your best asset which you say is your legs, a great skirt and fantastic pair of high heels would make you feel great.

that link says average height is 5'3!!!!!!!!!! that cant be right surely, i thought it was about 5'5...?!
Asda broderie anglaise dresses....
NO.2. ask :
Asda broderie anglaise dresses....
Has anyone seen these in their stores yet? They're an incredible £12 and come in white or a kind of mid-cool blue.
They're a button through style and have capped sleeves and a tie belt. They're "waisted" so I think will fit really nicely (difficult for me to tell if they're going to fit me yet!!!)
My store has gazillions of em but I'm guessing they'll sell really quickly and all end up on Ebay...
Answer:
I haven't been to Asda in ages; must have a mooch as there's a big 2 storey superstore by my Mom's...
Answer:
Any piccies? (long shot i know!) Sounds gorgeous :)

Going Out Tops
NO.4. ask :
Going Out Tops
Thinking of buying the top below as I think it would look good with skinny jeans, my snakeskin heels and black cropped jacket and lots of accessories - maybe a chunky clinch belt as well.
Also like the look of the top below as well to wear with skinny jeans.
What do we think? :)
Answer:
I definitely prefer the 2nd one to the first - I'm all for animal prints but there's something about that one that I'm not liking.
To be honest, I think there are much nicer versions of the first top around, but I like the fact that the 2nd one is different from most Victorian-y blouses that are in the shops.
Answer:
I prefer the second one but here's the practical (shock!) me thinking already of what to wear in Spring 06 and I think the whole victorian trend is going out.
I guess it depends how much wear you'd get out of it now? I prefer the second one, but am not in love with either - sorry!
Answer:
Love the first one - I wanted to wear it as a dress, but was just too short on me, but managed to persuade LizzieB to get it as she can get away with it at her height!

I was thinking of the dress idea but will play it safe and wear it with shorts if I wanted a change from the skinny jeans combo.
I'm going to get both I think - they're both so different that they'll serve different purposes. The second top could look good with jeans and flip flops in the summer as well. I shouldn't be buying anything right now but need going out outfits!!
Catwoman!
NO.5. ask :
Catwoman!
Hello, sorry i'm not trying to stalk you or anything. I was just wondering if i could ask you a few questions about the khaki Miss S dress (nosying around on What did you buy this week thread).
-Whats the material like? See through?
-Is it very short?
-Does it look very 80's? Sorry but the description on the website totally put me off - "wear with leggings for a totally 80's look" I DONT WANT AN 80's LOOK
I planning to wear it with brown beads, brown leather flip flops etc for summer, do you think that would work?
Oh one more question, does it have the same belted thing as the yellow dress has? (i think they photographed one of them back to front lol)
Ok ok honestly last question, do you think it would suit boobless, pear shaped me?
Sorry for the bombardment, but anyone else who has the dress is more than welcome to answer.
Thanks very much or any help :)
ETA: Impatient me has already ordered it (didnt want to wait until it sold out in my size, plus found a very handy 20% off :lovehb: )
Answer:
Bit late but....
1- Yes it is a bit see through from what i remember, nothing major though.
2- I'm 5'10 and it was short on me, it has slits up the side on the 'skirt' part which makes it a definate no no to wear as a dress for me. Will probably be fine on someone shorter though :)
3 - I didn't think it looked too 80's. Just a casual loose dress..of course it has an 80's flavour but i wouldn't look at it on someone and think "She's so 80's" :D Kinda thing:lol:
You know i really can't remember re: the belt thing:o It may have it...not 100%, sorry:o
Brown beads and flip flops would look great! I'm gonna wear mine with either bootcut jeans. flip flops and beads for a casual look or skinnies, heels and chains for a slightly more smarter casual look :)
Not much help was i? :cmdunno: Sorry!
Answer:
Thanks alot for the help (which was very helpful)
Hmmm slits eh? Bummer i was really hoping to wear this as a dress in the summer, are the slits all the way up the skirt part? i'm 5"4 so quite short but not very keen on showing flesh (i get so paranoid). Hmm might wear it with knee length denim cut offs or something similar.
Well i'll just wait to see how it turns out IRL, thanks and for the help! :)
Answer:
I think because you are shorter it will be more drop waisted than it was on me so should be fine :)
Let me know how you get on with it won't you!
It came around 8 inches from my hips i think so obviously it will be much lower on you considering you are 6 inches small than me! :)
Answer:
:fingers: it wont be too short on me.
I'll post a pic when it arrives (and when my sis gives my camera back), for more opinions on it.
Thank again :)
