If you do a search in travle you will find a super long thread - all about shopping, hotels and things to do and see.
I went in Nov of last year and had a great time. I'm not sure what the weather will be like when you go but it was bloody freezing when I was there.
All I can say is take the comfiest shoes you have.

My brother has been to NYC a few times he always gets loads of clothes from Urban Outfitters. I love their t-shirts - can't wait til we can shop online in UK this year!

Answer:
You'll have a great time and since you are going for so long, you'll have time to do loads of shopping. But I agree with Ipswich Shoe Gal, that there is so much else to do see that shopping isn't the top of my list of the best things in NY. SoHo area (South of Houston Street) has smaller boutiques more upcoming brands as opposed to the big name designers on 5th Avenue. Bloomingdales is also a good department store, especially for make-up perfume. If you like Urban Outfitters, it is worth visiting one of their NY Stores because they have the same stuff as here but much lower prices.
The last twice we've stayed in this hotel which is brilliant www.themusehotel.com - very central most comfortable beds ever.
When I was there in early April last year, the weather was very changeable - just like the UK - one day it poured with rain and the next it was very sunny my OH got burnt! So I would say to pack an umbrella, sunglasses and clothes which can be layered as needed. And of course, comfortable shoes - ideally two pairs as it is meant to be better for your feet to not wear the same pair every day.
Very jealous and wish I was going again soon.

    Other's Leftovers
Well a couple of months ago my cousin who is 10 years older than me (28) gave me a bag full o clotehs that she didn't really like any more.
I haven't been able to go through the bag, but I did it today and I found some fabulous stuff, even if it was amongst greater atrocities than wearable pieces.
    I found:
-a black ribbed vest with an interesting back
-a warm reddish sort of dark red basic tee with alot of shape
-A casual white zipup cardigan for wearing around the house which i really needed, although i would neevr be seen dead out in it
-some basic black trousers except with a big flare at the bottom and a small slit - not the most fashionable but EXTREMELY flattering :D
and finally, the showpiece, the one we've all been waiting for:
this fantastic cream beanie which according from the label which is still on (I know  ) sporting life. I've been looking for one for ages and it's really flattering against by unruly curly hair in shape aswell as against my red hair in colour! yay! :D
Has anyone else had a similar fantastic experience?
    Answer:
me and a girl I used to work with used to swap carrier bags of clothes every few months or so - we were the same age and size, and generally had similar tastes - so it meant a wardrobe of cool stuff for nowt.:yay:
    Answer:
That sounds so great :D But didn;t you mind giving away your clothes?
    Answer:
When i was little i used to enjoy nothing more than receiveing the yearly black bag full of clothes from my dad's rich cousin's daughter:D
My parents couldn't afford a lot so when i used to get this bag with pretty dresses, purple tracksuits ( ) and once jodpurs (when i had just started having a few lessons) i was thrilled....ahhhh:)
