Fancy dress for NYE
Hi All,
This might be an impossible question but I need a cheap fancy dress outfit for NYE that isn't cliched.
I wanna look sexy because i'm out with Mr PR (and every girl in town fancies him :()but I already have a playboy bunny outfit and besides everyone else will be wearing those!
I want something original but will not cost me the earth. I don't think there's a theme but I think all of Mr PR's mates are going as film characters.
Background on my looks:
Short (5'1)
Long brunette hair
Big boobs (for my frame)
Flabby stomach
OKish legs
Love love love high heels!
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you thank you thank you!
:) :)
Answer:
The cheapest thing I've ever done as far as fancy dress is concerned is toga's. All you need is a white sheet and plenty of safety pins. If you have good legs then this would be great cos you could make a short one and then a nice pair of gold heels. Get some ivy from the garden and make a head dress and you're good to go.
Only thing I'd say is not the warmest outfit in the world, but, nor is a playboy bunny outfit I guess.
Answer:
I did do the Toga thing for a university party and it went down well!
Apparantly I should've been a designer because it looked like a red carpet outfit rather than a cut up sheet.
I had a pic on my phone but it got deleted when my phone died :(
Answer:
some options I've been toying with for an upcoming party with a saucy theme have been:
Secretary a la Maggie Gyllenhaal (but I think this is not so fancy dress at the mo given it's a trend)
Jessica Rabbit - slinky red dress and red wig, long evening gloves
Hitchcock femme fatale - pencil skirt, tight blouse, fishnets, heels, leather driving gloves, hair up and tied with scarf and big sunglasses, red lips and matte foundation (I really like the thought of this one!) (very Dita von Teese)
Jane from Tarzan a la Bettie Page: very short leopard print dress and heels, hair rollered in a 50s style and red lips (sound like you could really pull this off btw!) the dress is pretty much just a one-shouldered short toga-type thing, you could get some fabric from a shop and not even have to sew it I think.
Answer:
We had a fancy dress thing last new year and one girl went as a french maid in a VERY short black maid's dress from the uniform shop on hanover square, with agent provocateur fluffy mules a feather duster and a natalie portman pink wig.
She looked great
can you help me find a pic of this skirt?
NO.2. ask :
can you help me find a pic of this skirt?
hi girls. this is a long shot, but was hoping you can help me find a pic of a skirt, from George, Asda. It's a full dark brown gypsy style skirt, tiered, with a thin stripe of different colours at the top of each tier.... anyone seen it, or heard of it? anyone skilled in the art of trying to find pictures of things?
I'm being given this for my birthday, and have promised to wear it to my party, but need to see a pic so I can find things that look good with it (and also ask the advice of you girls as to what to wear with it).
for those helping me out on my thread yesterday about this (dilemma about being given something to wear to my party, not what I wanted to wear), I spoke to said friend and told her my Mum also wanted to get me something to wear - then I said in a light hearted way: "no worries it just means I can wear two outfits! you don't think that's too extravagent do you?" and friend said "not at all, you can even blame the costume change on baby sick - even if she hasn't been sick on you!". Phew! My friend even said "oh you don't have to wear it to the party" but I know it would mean the world to her if I did. So I'll do a glam look for afternoon/early evening and then a kind of boho look with the skirt later with nice warm things for going out to bonfire!

Answer:
oooohhhhh - I've got the skirt you're talking about. Sorry, but cant help with a photo (don't have a digital camera) but i can tell you what i wear with mine. I usually wear a dark brown strappy vest top with my Primark gold sequinned shrug. I also wear gols shous and bag to tie in with the shrug and plenty of beads and bangles. Had loads of compliments when I wear it as well. You'll love it.
I did toy with tying in a bit of red as the trim you mention has red bits but I didn't think it worked very well for me. Might be ok for you though so worth a try.
Sorry about the pic but hopefully the ideas will have helped a bit.
Answer:
oh great missy, thanks! i do love the skirt - although had a minor dilemma when i found out it had been bought for my birthday party, cos i was getting really into looking for an outfit, and had a wrap dress look in mind. i'm really excited about getting the skirt now though :yay: the ideas you mentioned are lovely actually, thanks! xxx
Answer:
No problem. Hope the party goes well.

What do you think and a where can i...
I've just taken delivery of some topshop stuff i ordered and just needed some opinions on an item.
If i kept it does it look ok with a long sleeved top underneath like this...
Secondly if it does where can i get some cheap long sleeved grandad tops. The one i'm wearing underneath the cardi is from topshop and slightly too small so need the next size up. I think toosh mentioned some from primark...am i dreaming?
Ta ladies :)
Answer:
Yes it looks really nice. Toosh did indeed mention some from Primark as my ears pricked up (although I don't know why, I can't get to a Primark!)
I love both those tops you have on Cat - I was eyeballing them also, good choice!
Answer:
Sorry CIC I'm not really loving that one. :o
It just looks rather shapeless on you doesn't really do a thing for the top half of your body, which we know happens to look fab. I'd vote to return.
Answer:
I like CIC. Keep it.
Answer:
Dolphins - Although i haven't actually physically on the scales put weight one it looks like i have at the mo so i wanted something not too fitted and loose to hide in:o Also thinking if it was looser on my top half it wouldn't make my legs look as *cough* chunky as they do at the mo.
I haven't 100% decided if i'm keeping it cause it's expensive for me, just wanted to know if the longer sleeved top looks ok underneath so i can plan some outfits around it :)
New Primark shrug
NO.4. ask :
New Primark shrug
I was in Primark today and noticed a new shrug out - it's black with petrol coloured beading in sort of blues and purples...swithering whether to get it and just wondering if any other baggers had seen it and what they thought?
Fuzzy x
Answer:
I havent even seen it and I already want it

And me!
Answer:
I'm in Watford (just spent like 2 hours in Primark)..
I saw those, but didn't even touch them, wasn't too keen.
They had rails and rails of the gold sequin shrug though, I bought one, just in case..
(I've already got one)
I'm in a internet/cafe/coffee shop, and I'm so knackered, been shopping so much.
Maybe I should go back to primark and grab a few black shrugs...
