Anyone make their own clothes?

NO.1. Ask :
Anyone make their own clothes?
I'm not talking about a whole wardrobe, but was wondering if anyone ever makes items of their own.
I'm hopeless at sewing but my mum loves dressmaking so luckily she helps me out!
I'm not normally a DIY sort of person but I fell in love with this silk, velvet trimmed Chloe skirt on NAP.

The only problem is its £1010 (and sold out anyway!)
Given that I begrudge spending even forty pounds on a skirt, I went to a fabric store today and put some dark green silk, black diamante trim, and black velvet material (all for under nine quid, buahaha). Mine wont be exactly the same but I have a similar dress pattern so I will be taking a lot of 'inspiration' from the skirt.
Fingers crossed it turns out nicely! Cant wait to wear it with black knee high boots!
Anyone have any success stories from their own dressmaking? :D
Answer:
I used to make clothes when I was doing my A-levels, but haven't done so for a while now. Well done you for having a go though!
I made a kimono-inspired dress before, some cropped trousers, and a really wide hand-embroidered belt. I've made bags and jewellary as well, but I don't really have anywhere good to buy little beads and pieces anymore.
I always used to make belts come to think of it, they were fun and easy - I used to make them to match my outfits on a Saturday night :D
Good luck with the pattern, let us know once you've finished it!
xx
Answer:
I did a fashion design course last year and made 2 skirts as part of coursework I suppose. I really enjoyed making them and even though I'm not on the course this year (don't think it's on any more :(), I want to start making things again. I'm in the middle of a couple of corsets right now, but my dad threw the sewing machine out  so I'm a bit stuck. The pics of my skirts are on the link at the end of this post. Hardly professional quality but not too bad for a beginner.

Also, how annoying is Kate's presenting?! I know it's a live show and she has to stick to time but the way she hurries the judges is sooo annoying!

    Fab shopping day!
Just came on to boast about my fab shopping day :D
    I bought:
    Plain silver ballet flats
    Funky electric blue opaque tights
Grey patterned tights (all from New Look)
    Nike Duro sports headphones
A bright teal chunky knitted jumper from HM
and a pair of bluey-grey gauchos from Urban Outfitters for only £7.49 (down to £14.99 from £30 and then I find out at the till there's a further 50% off that - doncha love it when that happens :D)
Doesn't look like all that much now that I've written it all down, but they all look gorgeous :yay:
Anyone else had a good shopping day?
    Answer:
    Fab haul Chilli.
Have been busy on Ebay (have posted pics around) but no shopping in "real life" for me today.
    Answer:
With online shopping you get double the fun though - once the thrill of buying the item and then the satisfaction of receiving parcels in the post ;)
    Answer:
Ooooo i never saw the gauchos when i visited when it had just opened! You lucky thing you!
How much were your ballet flats? :)
    Great haul!:yay:
    Answer:
    Hey c_i_c :D
It was my first time in there and I'll have to go again - was rushed this time because Mr C was waiting for me! It's a lovely shop - really fun to browse through all the racks, particularly their vintage stuff!
The ballet flats were £20 :) Last of the plain ones! They've now replaced them with some (IMO) rather hideous glitter-coated ones...
