Spending Diary (Help for spending diet!)
    Hey,

I know a few of us pledged to a spending diet earlier on! Anyone who wants/or is on a spending diet, I find that keeping a 'spending diary' helps me with what I'm buying etc.

So I thought I would do one better and do one on here, so we can all tell each other off when we spend unneccessairly!

You can include costs for whatever you want, not just clothes!

A bit like the what did you buy this week thread... but not just fashion based :)

I would start it off, but I'm pleased to say that today I've spent nothing :D
    Answer:
    Ooh I'll join!
Think I might have to start after tomorrow though -I get paid and then half of that goes to paying off the holiday, then I have to order my ball dress sometime soon which will take almost all the rest of it :boohoo:
So I'm hoping for a small splurge in Primark tomorrow or something before that!
    Answer:
This is a good idea, I do try to write down everything that I spend but it hasn't stopped me spending- maybe doing it publically will shame me slightly!
I haven't bought anything since the weekend, but the weekend spending doesn't count cos it was a Bank Holiday :o
    Answer:
good idea, because i have been very bad of late.
    starting from today then:
    closer magazine
    looks magazine
    reveal magazine
thats it. so today i wasnt too bad.:D
    Answer:
    Good idea for a thread!
    I've done well today...

    - Refund in Primark +£16

Does anyone here use a fountain pen?
I have my trusty Montblanc and I hate using anything else. It's a faff to fill and to remember to fill but it makes writing boring things so much more interesting!
    Answer:
no :o i did sometimes in school but i write like a leftie but with my right hand (or so my english teacher said) so i just make a huge mess :o
    Answer:
:D I am a leftie so I walk around with a blue hand most of the time  .
    Answer:
I don't, but my OH likes using one, not that either of us actually write much anymore :o
    Answer:
When I was teaching teenagers in France, fountains, not biros, were the norm. The handwriting they are taught to use in primary school is very beautiful and it suits it.

  • My hen night- what do you think?

    NO.4. ask :
My hen night- what do you think?
I wanted to post this outside of Weddings as I'd really appreciate a wide range of views.
I don't want a big hen night and certainly nothing involving strippers, L plates or willy straws. I'm not knocking anybody who likes that sort of thing, but it's really not me!
Ideally, I wanted to have a small do with just my bridesmaids and I. I felt that I should extend the invitation to some of Mr Shiny's friend's wives and girlfriends who I've become friends with too, all of whom live here in the Midlands.
As all of my bridesmaids are based in the south, it makes sense to have the party in London. This will involve and overnight stay for everyone and I realise that not everyone will want to spend the money to do that, so have made it clear to everyone that they shouldn't feel under any obligation to attend and that we could also have a local celebration in the Midlands if people preferred.
The total cost will be £100, plus drinks and train tickets. The £100 is for a game of bowling at the All Star Lanes, dinner at the Roof Gardens, hotel and breakfast. I know it's a not a small amount of money, but I don't think it's that bad compared to some.
I saw one of the girls who is invited this weekend and told her about the plans (having first told her that she shouldn't feel under any obligation to travel all the way to London etc etc) and she got really sniffy and asked me to "stop trying to sell the weekend and cut to the chase and tell me what it cost". When I told her she got even sniffier and said that as she's a SAHM she doesn't have that sort of money to spend. She then turned around and started a very loud conversation about people who have unrealisitic expectations over hen nights and how selfish it is to expect people to spend a lot of money :(
She made me feel like a complete cow for suggesting she travel to London, but if I hadn't of invited her I'm sure she'd have had something to say about that too.
None of my bridesmaids have a problem with the plans or the cost, but I have a feeling that more of the girls up here will have similar reactions and I'm wishing I hadn't bothered inviting them now.
People don't have to come, but there's no need for them to be rude about it.
Am I being a total bridezilla?
    Answer:
Hmmm, I don't know. I think I would be a bit hacked off at being asked to spend over £100 on a hen night, to be honest. Could you have something in London for the bridesmaids and something local for the others who can't make it?
Edited to add: I don't think I would have been that rude though!
    Answer:
No. You wanted a small hen night, and have been kind enough to invite her along. Like you said, she would have said something if you didn't invite her, so she's being really unreasonable. Personally, I think £100 is a very resonable price. She's going out to dinner, for drinks, and to a nice hotel.
TBH, your bridesmaids are the people you really want there, and as long as they can come, you should just leave it, it will be fun with her or without her. It's your wedding. You're not exactly making her travel to the Bahamas for a beach wedding blowout, are you? X

I did do that though- I told her that if everyone here wanted to do something local then we could do, but I wanted her to know that she was welcome to come to London too if she wanted.
That's when she got all snotty with me :(
    Answer:
I do think that the idea of hen nights has got a little out of hand, and along with the cost of attending a wedding it does really add up.
However, you didn't invent the trend, and she was rude.

    NO.5. ask :
    new look shoes?
Does anyone have shoes from new look?
I have seen a pair of gold sparkly stilettos and i haven't stopped thinking about them since i saw them, I don't know where exactly i plan on wearing them but i have to have them, but have never bought shoes from there before how are they in terms of quality?
Obviously i'll try them on before i buy so comfort i can figure out myself, i just don't want to spend money on shoes that don't last too long.
    Answer:
I have a pair of boots I got over 2 years ago, and to be honest they look exactly the same as when I bought them (and I've lived in them for 2 winters).
I have a second pair of boots for over a year, and again, they look the same.
I have a pair of ballet pumps with sequins all over, which must be well over a year old, and again they've lasted really well.
    Answer:
I've got loads of New Look shoes and I've never had any trouble with any of them.
    Answer:
Ok, cool will go try them on on friday and hoping they look and feel ok, I'll get them, One of my friends buys all her clothes from new look primark and mark one and says she likes them cause they are "disposable" I think her saying that kinda put me off the shoes in the past.
    Answer:
I've got a few pairs of New Look shoes and have found them all to last really well :great: I've found one pair of silver peeptoe heels in particular to be the most comfy heels I own - I've worn them on practically every night out I've been on for the last 18 months and they're still going strong (albeit looking a bit more battered now then they did at first, but thats probably because I go to minging nightclubs with sticky floors :o  )
