Looking for THE BEST pair of black trousers

NO.1. Ask :
Looking for THE BEST pair of black trousers
I think I've spent my life looking for the perfect pair of black trousers for work! I'm a size 14 and smaller round the waist but bigger round the bum and hips. I want a pair to wear with smart shirts or skinny jumpers. I don't want a pair in that horrible shiny material that you get, they need to be matt and good quality looking and make me look slim!
Not asking a lot eh? Anyone out there my shape that has the Holy Grail pair of trousers?
Answer:
Well, I used to go to Marks and Spencers and their new limited collection. But, I bought a pair a few months ago and have been disappointed since... but Ive have discovered the grail... don't tell anyone especially in the York area though!
Its...... Sainsburys
Yep...I was shocked too but their stuffs really nice fitting and not in that cheap shiny polyester material!:)
Answer:
I'm the same shape (small waist, curvy hips) and I have a pair of brown trousers from Miss Selfridge that fit almost perfectly and answer your description in every point except the colour! They usually get some nice black ones in for a/w though, so it might be worth a look to see if there are any at the moment.

Answer:
It all depends on your budget, really, doesn't it?
I have some GREAT black trousers from HM, which cost £19.99 and fit fabulously well. They are 100% polyester or something, so I just chuck them in the washing machine and they come out looking exactly the same. I, too, have a curvy bum/hips and a narrow waist and I find a lot of HM trousers fit well. Downsides: if it's warm, polyester isn't what you want to wear and if it's really cold, polyester isn't that warm! You need to hunt around though, as they do cheap looking shiny ones too, but you can find the odd gem.
If you want to spend more, why not investigate Jigsaw/Hobbs/Karen Millen/similar? Dries van Noten and Day Birger et Mikkelsen do great trousers too, but obviously cost more plus you have to add in the cost of regular dry cleaning.
Answer:
I'm a size 14 too and my absolute favourite pair of trousers are a pair I bought from Debenhams, I think they're Antoni and Alison ones. They're quite wide legged and a lovely matt finish. I think they were about £40. Trouble is in my current state I'm growing out of them rather rapidly :(

Hmmm... I think they could be nicer, but they are quite nice, I'd prefer them a little higher and maybe with a little 'something extra' to make them more interesting. How much are they?
    Answer:
£185, I am trying to decide whether I like them enough to justify that much money.

Personally I quite like them but think they're a bit expensive. Also, if you're going to spend that much you need to really LOVE them, and I guess that if you're not sure about them then you don't! :)

    NO.4. ask :
Label buying and where you live?
Don't live anywhere near London where I think people are more fashion concious in terms of niche labels. Just wondering are you attracted to lables/brands that people where you live don'rt seem to know much about?
    I admit I am.
    Answer:
Re: Label buying and where you live?
That brings up an interesting question: are Londoners more label-conscious becuase we have more choice of shops, or because we have a different attitude towards it?
If it's because of having more choice, do you think people outside London have become more label-conscious since the emergence of designer internet mail order companies?
I've lived in London all my life so I couldn't really say.
    Answer:
Quite honestly, I couldn't care less ;) I may become more label conscious when I start earning money, but I doubt it. As long as it looks good and fits well, the label on the inside is of supreme unimportance to me.
I do get a certain enjoyment out of telling people that my entire outfit is from a charity shop though, and watching their faces!

    Me too!
    Answer:
If I like it, and it fits well, I don't care where I bought it from or who made it, although if its expensive it will put me off totally. I come from Cornwall and have spent the last couple of years in Swansea so I'm not from a very fashion concious area.

    NO.5. ask :
    Size labels
We've had quite a few comments in a couple of previous threads about the fact that some women knowingly wear clothes that are too small for them because they want to be that size, and have a psychological problem with a bigger size label. So, is there anyone here who will admit to doing this, and does it truly make you feel better knowing you've bought the smaller size?
I have clothes in all sizes from an 8 to a 14 and they all fit. But I am partly annoyed with certain high street shops who pander to "vanity sizing" and make their sizing more generous than before. As a result, Monsoon are actually starting to make size 8 tops that are too big for me, which was definitely not the case a few years ago.
Does anyone even know how the British sizing system came about? Most sizing really is meaningless. What exactly does a size 10 mean - 10 centimetres? 10 inches? 10 hand widths?
    Answer:
Don't think I have anything terribly useful to add, but definitely agree that sizing is all over the place and ends up being totally subjective!
I am 5' 8", 9 and a half stone, and although I am quite slim, there's no way I'm 'skinny'. I bought some size 8 trousers from Jigsaw (the smallest size they do) and had to have them taken in because they were falling off me! On the other hand, just ordered some trousers from La Redoute and according to their size chart I'm a size 12- will have to see if they fit when they arrive!
There's definitely no point getting too hung up on it- and if anyone hates the size label that much they should just cut it out!
    Bx
    Answer:
I don't do this myself, but I absolutely hate it when I can't get my size in a garment because someone who may be a size 12 or so decided to take the only 8! This happened to me just recently with a jacket I really wanted to buy.
    Answer:
i wish they could standardise it  then it would be so easy! i have anything from a 6 to a 16
    Answer:
Couldn't agree more! It is really annoying that I'm a different size in every shop.
I also get fed up that shops don't seem to order enough stuff in the common sizes eg I wear size 6 shoes and they are always the first to sell out. There are never any sales bargains in that size either, surely it would make sense to order more of those sizes?!
Anyway, what I was going to say was that a couple of year ago there was this big survey to measure loads of women and adjust the size of clothes accordingly. Apparantly most shops still base their sizes on measurements taken in the 1950s.
I don't know if the survey is finished yet or if any changes will be made as a result but it would be great if it could be standardised.
    :)
