long weekend in glasgow
NO.3. ask :
long weekend in glasgow
Hi
Going to Glasgow next weekend, have never been before.
Looking for advise pleeease on best places to shop, eat and drink.
Thanks
Answer:
In the city centre, the Buchanan Gallery is a good place to start - all the usual suspects and a good HM. Further up Sauchiehall Street there's a reasonable Primark. There are some posher shops (Hobbs, Karen Millen, etc) down Buchanan Street and in Prince's Square (which used to have some reasonable cafes), and Argyll Street has a really good branch of Topshop, a Faith, Shelley's and so on. In the West End, there's a cute eclectic mix of shops in De Courcy's Arcade (on Ashton Lane at the back of Byres Road), plus a couple of vintage shops.
For food, there's loads of choice. I think there were some reccies about good Glasgow restaurants in Food and Drink a while ago, but here are a few of my favourites:
Byres Road is full of little cafes, not all of them Starbucks ;) Little Italy is a West End institution and used to do good pizzas. Just watch out for all the computer scientists from the department up the road!
--Cafe Andaluz (west end, Ashton Lane): Nice tapas, cool decor and not too pricey.
--Naked Soup (west end, Byres Road): Good place for lunch, with good quality soups, salads and stews (varies daily) and lovely smoothies :)
--Stravaigin (west end, Gibson Street): Mixed, interesting menu, friendly staff, informal but smart. I recommend the Thai mussels!
-- No. 16 (Byres Road): Tiny little restaurant tucked down at the Dumbarton Road end; very cute and cosy. It serves really good food, mostly Scottish-with-a-twist. The menu varies quite a bit, but their brownies are excellent!
-- Cafe Gandolfi (Albion Street, I think): Another Glasgow institution with cool furniture and an interesting menu. It gets very busy around lunch time.
-- Gamba (city centre): One word - seafood!
-- City Merchant (Candleriggs): Mostly Scottish, with a strong emphasis on seafood
-- Grassroots Cafe (Charing Cross): Entirely veggie menu and a very good one at that. Their cooked breakfast (available until mid-afternoon on weekends) is great.
There's also a Wagamama on Nelson Mandela Place, and OKO, a sushi bar (but that's definitely gone downhill lately). You might find a few more here.
As for places to drink, I very rarely go out to bars so can't help much there, alas.

Great review Geek_Kitten!
Will know where to go to next time I visit Glasgow (stayed there for a month in 96 but would say it is quite different nowadays! ...always seem to go straight to Edinburgh when visiting Scotland though :) )
Answer:
Aw, thanks!
It has changed a lot over the past ten years or so, mostly for the better :) even if some of it is just gloss over the grit underneath! It supposedly has the best shopping in Britain outside of London though :whoop: so it's worth visiting for that reason only I suppose!

TS baxter jeans
NO.4. ask :
TS baxter jeans
Ello there!
Was just wondering has anyone got the Topshop baxter jeans?? I've got my heart set on them and keep picturing them with different outfits etc:o . I wont be able to go and get them for a while sooo i was wondering if they really are as nice as they look on the website? AND it would be really good if anyone could post pics of those jeans on, so i could see how they fit etc!
thank you!:)
Answer:
LauraJane and Mimicat def have them - I know Mimi loves the fit of hers and says they fit very true to size. Not sure if that helps...
Answer:
Oh no, sorry to out a dampener on things but I bought these last week (posted on them a few days ago actually) and the pockets are really low down at the back giving an impression of a saggy arse!!
(These are the greyish denim drainpipes aren't they? just to be sure!)
It's interesting you say you are picturing lots of things to wear them with 'cos I couldn't find one thing! You're probably just more creative than me though :p
Taking mine back next week actually and exchanging them for the indigo skinnies.
Answer:
I'm hoping to track a pair of these down as well. I find TS jeans hit and miss fit-wize though - but there again I have got a rather large behind which I don't think they really cater for! :o I hope they fit because I love the colour of them - and they'll save me £100+ that I'd spend on teh Sass and Bides
Answer:
Wow I came online to start this very thread, seemed to be beat to it! :p I'm not sure about them so am buying a 28 and 30 waist online and praying that my thighs don't look too hideous in them

URGENT - need tit tape today!
Where in Nottingham can I get this without having to go up to the Victoria centre? Do they sell it in Boots?
Thanks

Answer:
Don't know about Boots - some bigger stores might. MS, Claire's accessories and Superdrug sell it, I think.
