mixing it up
1 Attachment(s) hey ladies
i'm reading elle on my lunch break and it has a feature called 'the big mix' - essentially about mixing patterns, zig-zags, stripes, florals, all at once..(actually, hang on a mo and i'll post the page...)
Ok. do any of you do this? and if you do, what are your tips?
I haven't attempted this - through fear of looking a pratt i think, as i'm strangely attracted to the mishmash of it all. Do you think it's a look better suited to catwalk models and therefore a bit of a case of 'Would they Wear it in Wigan' for the girl on the street....
How come some people can carry this off but i would look like i've got dressed in the dark and left the house without looking in a mirror?!
discuss...... :D
Answer:
Personally I dont think it would look good on the streets, I dont particularly like it on the catwalk!
I would not be brave enough to mix like that anyway, I am far too sensible ;)
So for me its a big no no.
Answer:
Hello,
I'm wearing stripes and tie dye today which is a bit clashy, but it's not something I do regularly. I sometimes wish my style wasn't quite so matchy matchy, but I can't get over it! I do like the idea of wearing graphic Miu Miu style prints like that though, but of course my budget doesn't stretch to top to toe Miu Miu ensembles!

EEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Yuck - that would give you a headache.
Answer:
I hate that look. I always end up looking at people who do that to their clothes and thinking " You overdid it on the wacky baccy this morning luv!"
It looks really messy and noone ever sucessfully carries that off and looks GOOD with it IMO.
What to wear with long boots?
NO.2. ask :
What to wear with long boots?
Hi :) I don't venture into the fashion forum much as I usually buy the same sort of stuff, jeans and tshirt type tops so no need for advice there. I bought a pair of knee high black boots for £9 a few days ago. I have no idea what they'd look good with. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks :)
Answer:
Plain black boots are very versatile, although I imagine that you'll probably have to wait until autumn to wear them! You could wear them with anything from slick pencil skirts for work, wrap dresses, and knee-length denim or funky patterned skirts, depending on the style of the boots. I'm not that keen on short denim skirts with high heeled boots stiletto boots - I prefer something lower and chunkier.
They can also look good with cropped trousers, but personally I prefer ones with pointy toes and kitten heels for that. If they're big enough round the calf, you can also wear them over skinny-fit jeans, maybe with a belted long top?
g_k
Answer:
Thanks geek_kitten. They're not really pointy but quite high heeled. I do want to start wearing skirts more but have a lack of confidence. I love denim skirts but think a long one would be more 'me' . Not that I'm Mrs sensible, just not a teeny bopper anymore :)
Answer:
I wear knee highs all the year round, normally with a knee length skirt on a short skirt with tights.

I'll be wearing them out in 2 weeks for a night out. I can't wait to wear them. I can see me becoming surgically attatched to them :)
Help me with my Glastonbury packing
NO.3. ask :
Help me with my Glastonbury packing
Right, after a million lists and washloads I've almost decided what to take with me to Glasto but think I may have brought too much :o
Oh, and I might not have brought enough 'sensible' things.
I know there's a few seasoned festival-goers and Glastonbury pros so any help will be much appreciated!
Is there a knack to this packing lark? The problem is I'm not sure what the weather's going to do.
I'm driving so will be able to leave lots in my car.

OMG, I didn't realise that Glasonbury lasted a month, my colleague is an organiser, we're expecting him back next week ;)
Answer:
A light fleece - if the skies are clear it will get a bit cold in the evenings. It may not be gorgeous but it will be practical and will dry quickly if it gets wet.
A cap or hat to keep the sun off your face and neck?
Pack plastic bags of all different sizes. They will take up hardly any space if you roll them right up and have loads of uses.
Answer:

I think you've got it about perfect, but you forgot HUGE sunnies and some underwear :p .
I would suggest you take some Trackie bottoms / Juicey pants as well for early mornings / cold nights and maybe another sweater / jacket in case it gets cold.
I take wipes for everything and femfresh :o are better than crating around a loo roll!

hee hee!
I think Pansymouse might have a point, your clothes all sound fab but I think you might have rather a lot of stuff. How long are you going for? And importantly is it going to rain (one of the years I went was the horrifically muddy one, but I think you're safe from that)
Remember you'll have to carry all your stuff from the car! Having said that, I am a notorious over-packer and can't follow my own advice.... must try and pack light when I go to Benicassim festival in august...
You must be really excited about going.... have a great time!

Day time look for holiday
NO.5. ask :
Day time look for holiday
Hi guys, I always seem to struggle with this....
We are going to Florence and Chianti next week, I'm off shopping tonight. The problem I have is what to wear in the day, when we're wandering round the little villages etc. I need something that will keep me cool, that is comfy and that looks nice? I seem to struggle with shorts, never seem to get the length quite right (I'm just 5ft) and they seem rather unflattering on me! Please help, what works for you, I nee your advice?
Answer:
I'd go for flip flops or pretty beaded thong sandals with a slouchy 3/4 length full sirt or 3/4 length trousers, a vest or cotton cami and a little shrug or cardi in case it's chilly.
Thats should keep you warm and elegant!
Mimi x
Answer:
Oh lucky you! Florence is gorgeous. There is just so much to see and SO much to eat! I had two huge meals a day and gorged myself on gelato in between...
As the Italians are always so stylish you won't feel out of place in a pretty summer dress. Streets are quite cobbly so comfortable shoes are essential!

OT slightly,
I know I cant wait, we've been to Venice, Lake Garda, and Rome and just love the Italian way of life (food and wine been a huge contributing factor) that Florence and Greve in Chianti are our next points if call!!
Will have a look tonight for similar things to what you have both mentioned. I just sometimes look at myself in holiday pics when we're out and about and think "what were you doing" any other time I'm fine, it's just the comfy, relaxed, attractive day time look I struggle with!
Thanks for your replies.
Answer:
Also with you being petite, knee length skirts and dresses with beaded flip flops would look nice, there are some lovely linen dresses and skirts on the warehouse website, I like this one although I know it's not very practical!
dress
This skirt is nice also.
