O/T: Restaurant recs in London.

NO.1. Ask :
O/T: Restaurant recs in London.
Hi, I know I should probably post this in food but since I trust the advice of all you stylish London baggers I thought I would try here first.
I am planning to take Mr. aness to eat out at a very good restaurant (normally frequent Pizza Express and the like) in London but don't really know where to go. The budget is about £150 for both of us and we are pretty open minded when it comes to types of cuisine; although I am a vegetarian so there needs to be at least one meat free dish.
So far I have thought of maybe the trattoria upstairs at 15, Carluccio's Neal Street restaurant or The Zetter, on Clerkenwell Road but really don't know where to start. Or maybe somewhere like Yauatcha (sp?). Any advice would be appreciated. x
Answer:
Andrew Edmunds in lexington street, w1 is lovely and romantic but you need to book...
RG
Answer:
I don't mind booking, I want it to be in just under a fortnight's time.
Answer:
I love Asia de Cuba on St. Martins lane - mmm yummy.
Answer:
I love Mr Wing on Old Brompton Road, yummy chinese food and lovely decor. Daphne's near South Kensington is also lovely, has great italian food, last time I went got to sit near the fireplace and was lurrrrrrvely and romantic! Frankies in Knightsbridge is also nice, the decor is very Scarface though! But the food was lovely and really good service.
  • ANOTHER ebay question, but need advice!; Find me some shoes; Similar dress wanted; Cleaning silk shoes; I really like one of the Lily Allen dresses!
  • Festival Wear

    NO.2. ask :
    Festival Wear
Ive got a outfit planned for the IOW festival on friday but I've never been so i dont know whether I would look out of place or too dressed up! I was thinking of wearing:
My khaki knee length cap sleeved primark wrap dress
    Black Flip Flops from accessorize
And alot of boho/shell style bangles and necklaces
What do you all think? I'll try and add pics later when my camera is working.
    Answer:
I'll keep an eye out for you! ;)
Just remember that you will be lugging your no doubt huge heavy bag first of all, then loads of sitting on the ground followed by quite a bit of staggering around, so if your outfit can cope with that then great (are your flipflops good enough to walk on v. rough ground over a huge distance from the car to the campsite whilst argueing about which is the best stop to put the tent up)!!!
I think what you are thinking of wearing sounds great - don't worry too much - I've not be to IOW before (off this weekend) but have been to Glastonbury quite a few times and just wear what you feel comfortable in, the dress will make a nice change from the thousands of jeans and tshirts.
    Have a lovely weekend :)
    Answer:
    Thanks! :)
Just a note - Im not camping b/cos i live only a few miles away so i dont have to be *that* practially dressed (as if i ever am ;))
    Answer:
Sounds fine to me, i'm not sure how long your dress is, but beware of festival portaloos and long skirts, especially after a weekend.
    Tani
    Answer:
Depending on whos playing, how popular they are and how excited the crowd gets - it's never a good idea to wear flimsy footwear to a festival. Made that mistake once and nearly broke my bloody ankle! I wouldn't even wear open toe shoes never mind flip flops. But then I'm older and wiser now...
The clothes aren't really that important I don't think as long as you feel comfortable in them. Definitely wear suncream though as you will be hanging around for hours and if there is the slightest hint of sun you'll have bright red cheeks for a week (speaking from experience again).
I'm starting to sound like my mother, so I'll just say have a nice time and wear whatever you like (apart from flip flops oppps sorry couldn't help myself!) :o

    NO.3. ask :
    Premium brands on ASOS
I have just been on ASOS and they have now launched their premium brands on the site, there's some quite nice and very expensive stuff!
    Answer:
I think the clothes are far too expensive! Asos was supposed to be affordable, I also dislike the new website layout, it's not very nice.
    Answer:
One of my good friends is currently pursuing a job at head office, he said they are expanding like mad and expecting to get even bigger over the next few years... he did mention the premium brands launch which is all part of their expansion I guess.
I think it's a bit silly too, you have really cheap stuff, then really expensive stuff, it's kind of gone on a tangent from what the website was originally for... items 'as seen on screen'.
  • Boots; kitten heel shoes; True Religion Bobby Jeans sizing?; i nearly puked...; hold-ups
  • How do you pack?

    NO.4. ask :
    How do you pack?
I'm going to New York for a weekend break soon and I'm having packing panics! I want to try and just take a carry-on bag because I dont want to risk my luggage getting lost on the way there. I thought I might pack a fold up bag inside to bring back purchases in. I will probably take an Eastpak wheelie case as my carry-on, and a Muji squashy nylon holdall for the return check-in luggage.
What does everyone else do for a 3 night trip? I usually like a squidgy carry on bag as I like to stuff it under the seat in front (I'm one of these people that always has to get something out of her bag). I drape a big pashmina over my knees so the hostess can't see the bag sticking out ;)
I also like to be prepared for every eventuality so I'll bring an umbrella, bodywarmer, pashmina and I think I will pack my rabbit scarf I bought last winter (please don't flame me). I really feel the cold on planes and this is really warm but small enough not to take up lots of precious room.
    What's everyone's else's must-pack essentials?
    RG
    Answer:
    Hi Rollergirl,
Never been to NY, but I've been to Amsterdam a few times for 2 and 3 night breaks and only ever take carry on luggage.
I travel in a smart casual outfit (ie not so casual that you won't get offered an upgrade ;) )and waterproof jacket (which I wear/carry to save packing)
I pack underwear including socks, warm clothes such as jumpers and tshirts/vests for layers, I wear my heaviest shoes/boots and pack a pair for going out. I don't take a hairdryer as the hotel has one, toiletries and make up is kept to a minimum (in the smallest possible bag) and everything else that I can't fit in I make my OH carry!!
Rather than take really casual and really dressy clothes I try to take a couple of smart but practical outfits that are ok for most occasions.
Depending on what you plan to do in NY, I would take casual clothes with maybe a more dressy top and a pair of nice sandals/shoes. Then you'll have plenty of room to make lots of purchases! ;)
    Have a lovely time.

    Answer:
just a quick question sort of related to this -
Is it best to roll or fold clothes in the suitcase? which is the most space saving?
    Answer:
Ah! Good point about the hairdryer, I was going to take mine but -duh!- I'm staying in a nice hotel so they're bound to have one.
Nursie, it's better to roll as the creases drop out when you hang up the clothes. There's a feature in Vogue this month about packing and they recommend using slippery plastic drycleaning bags which I agree with. if I'm packing a big suitcase for a proper holiday I pack trousers and skirts lengthways in the case but the key is to pack them first, put the waistband in the middle of the case and let the legs/skirt hang over the side of the case. Layer all the skirts/trousers/jeans this way and when you've packed everything else you fold the trouser legs/skirts over the top of the other stuff so you don't get a sharp crease.
That's my big packing tip for the day!

I was dying some stuff earlier, didn't realise it would stain my skin.....
Now I have Green hands. I've got most of it off with a nail brush, but there is still a green tint and my nails are all green. Any suggestions? Thanks!
    Answer:
Go to a shop like Halfords, they would sell soap that gets car oil off (I can't remember the name of it for the life of me though Swarfega? that might be it it's in an orange bottle), its kinda gritty but it always works for me.
    Tani
    Answer:
lemon juice or an astringent face wash such as jonson and jonsons cleanser for oily skin works well :)
    Answer:
Nothing useful to add but... lesson learnt... next time wear rubber gloves!!!
    Answer:
If you have long nails, cut them off or wear really thick rubber gloves (but they'll probably still go through).
