Next Directory summer 2005
Has anyone got the extra Summer 430 page catalogue? Mine arrived today. What did you think of it?
They have some nice sandals, much nicer than those in the original catalogue.
I ordered a cute mint green undie set and they have a few nce skirts - which are overpriced but hey that's next for you I guess.
Answer:
As OH works at their HQ, I got mine a few weeks ago. Some stuff is really lovely, and I have corners turned down on a few things!
I;m especially liking some of the shoes, and the Matthew Williamson-style dress on p54. Hoping I get invited to a wedding this summer, so I have an excuse to get one!
Answer:
The undie set arrived this morning - it's gorgeous!!
That pink/peach dress inspired by MW is quite nice. I only hope it looks okay IRL.
Answer:
It's always a risk with Next, isn't it! Well, with catalgoue shopping in general.
We can't order from the Directory still get OH's discount unless we order in a store, so I don't order from the catalogue much anyway. I'll be looking out for it in the shops in a couple of months.

Topshop ------ Has it become too expensive?
NO.3. ask :
Topshop ------ Has it become too expensive?
I have shopped at topshop for more than 12 years, and it always suited my budget, even when i was living at home and going to school! and also when I was a skint student. But now, when i look in there, I see flimsy little tops for sale at £35. So I have started to shop around, and find I can still feel as stylish, even when I shop in cheaper shops.
It wouldnt bother me if T.S. clothes were actually worth what they charge, but I dont believe they are I think it has disappeared up its own backside .... all the 'celebs' say " oh dahling, i just adore topshop" and it seems to believe its own hype a bit too much.
However for those poor ppl with no individuality and too much spare cash  I guess it must seem like fashion heaven.

Answer:
I hardly shop there anymore. In th epast year I've bought ONE top from there, whereas when I was 15-18 it was my first stop when I went clothes shopping.
I can't beelieve the prices of clothes and accessories in there now. I always turn the price tage over expecting to see something ridiculous and I'm very rarely disappointed.
The SAME items are sometimes sold in New Look - the difference? a label and about £15!!!
Roll on Hennes, New Look and Primark - those are gonna be my 3 main shops this Summer.
Answer:
Yes.
I think topshop is the biggest cattle market going, of course I see some nice pieces (when I have a dig) but hardly any are ever worth the price tag.
Once a big topshop fan (I worked there when I did my alevels), I can vouch for the fact that TS do think they're very clever and have many more marketing techniques in place than they'd like us all to know. The arcadia group think they've got the whole thing covered with each of their brands.
I'm boycotting TS in favour of Dotty P's, Miss S, New Look :D , HM and Primark!
Answer:
i dont shop in topshop because of the prices- i think the quality is crap for what you pay! and river island has done the same to an extent- but i can still usually find some stuff i like there
agree- hennes and primark are great for bargains- i'm a convert!
Answer:
I think if anything TS is the filtered/watered down high street version of trends that have been around for at least two seasons. I find it hard to shop there because there's always a cheaper better quality version of what they're selling else where. For example the so called TS vest £6.00 at Primark it's £2.00 and they have just as many colours. I don't mind paying out for a classic but when all TS is offereing are this seasons "must haves" in garish colours then the price doesnt justify it, I'll go to Primark. That way it can date or fall apart as quickly as the season passes and I won't care.
If I want something unusual I'll wait until I'm either oversea's in places like New York, Melbourne (there's fantastic shop there called Dangerfield) and San Francisco. If I want something funky in the UK I'll go to Portabello Market (Friday mornings before 11:00am is best)
Ebay has opened up a fashion heaven for me I can get the designer original cheaper than the high street copy. Frye boots for £65.00 (inc P+P)as opposed to the MS version £79.00 and a DVF denim wrap dress £130.00 (inc P+P) Karen Millen £120.00.
What is nice about this thread is that people are realising they have choice, individuality and the freedom to express both as opposed to what the TS and the rest of the high street tells them to wear.
