Watches on e-bay?
NO.2. ask :
Watches on e-bay?
Just after a bit of advice really,
I lost my CK watch yesterday (gutted, it was a present from my fiance). I've had the watch a couple of years but am thinking about getting one similar. I've seen some on e-bay, brand new ones but am dubious about buying as I've never bought anything from e-bay before.
Is it a good idea? Any advice/experience would be great
thanks
lisa

Hey. I got a DKNY watch on Ebay from the US and had no problems at all, wasn't fake either.
Ive never had any major problems on Ebay; you've just got to go by the ratings on people.

Help - 1940's fashion
NO.3. ask :
Help - 1940's fashion
Please help me, I'm going to a party in a couple of weeks and the theme is 1940's fashion. Any ideas on the type things/shapes women wore then, I've had a quick search on the net but couldn't really find much. I don't mind buying a few bits, if I can wear them again.
I've got some teal suede 'dancing shoes' - would these be along the right lines?
Any suggestions or websites to look at would be greatly appreciated. :)
Thanks

Answer:
There was rationing so clothes were a slim shape to make the most use of fabric. Stockings were a luxury so loads of women put colouring on their legs and drew a pencil line up the back to look like a seam. Lots of women were also in uniform so that could be an option too. Red lipstick is a must, as is very groomed hair.
Answer:
How about a smart pencil skirt with a fitted blouse tucked in and your teal dancing shoes? You can asseccorise with a nice brooch and pearls. If your hair's long and you have some rollers then you could create big bouncy curls and have your hair backcombed so you don't see your parting. Like pansymouse says, red lipstick is a must and I like the uniform idea.
It sounds like fun :yay:
Answer:
You could try watching some films set in the period; something like Enigma might have a few ideas, especially for hair and makeup.
I like the uniform idea as well, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to find something authentic-looking...

Thanks for the suggestions and ideas everyone! Will do some serious shopping for it this weekend.
Think I'll try and get some seamed tights, don't think Mr misses would manage to draw a straight enough line!

Cutting Edge Specs!
NO.4. ask :
Cutting Edge Specs!
Where can I get fashionable glasses without paying the earth? I've previously shopped in the big Vision Express on Oxford Street and they've had a great selection, but I went in there the other day and all they have are 1001 variations on a wire-rimmed theme.
I'm looking for somethiing along the lines of Sasha in EastEnders or Nicky Hambleton-Whatsit on 10 Years Younger.
Anyone have any ideas in W1?
Answer:
I bought some glasses at the weekend from Asda of akll places!
they had a pretty good range and were very reasonable pricewise
Answer:
Asda have an opticians? I never knew that.
Unfortunately, the nearest one to me is Shoeburyness and there ain't no way I'm going there!
Answer:
I actually ordered my glasses on the web, from this site: www.swisheyewear.com
I just trekked around a load of different opticians, until i found the frames i liked (gucci gg 2497 in granite in my case) and saved money by buying the frames online, and then getting my optician to put the lenses in.
I'm afraid i'm in Brighton, so i can't recommend any opticians in your area - why not try your yellow pages? There's a place in brighton called eyesite, which looks like a chain, which has lots of trendy specs.
Happy hunting!
Answer:
OMG, tell me about it... I am in love with the ones in the new Prada campaign!
I can recommend an opticians rounds the corner from the Pret a Manger in Knightbridge. Sorry, I can't remember the name but I do know how to get there! The Pret is on the corner of the road that leads into Montepelier Square - it is on the opposite side of the road from Gap in Knightsbridge.
Anyways, the guy there is lovely (his name is Mo) and he does specs for my aunt and cousins, and also loads of rich n famous ppl. IMHO, he is pretty reasonbly priced tho. He has got all the latest specs and equipment... in fact I may just have to pop over to see if he has the new Prada ones.
I love my funky specs :yay:
My first visit to Primark
NO.5. ask :
My first visit to Primark
I was in Bromley with my mate, and decided to pop in and have a look, well after reading on here just what fab bargains can be found there I thought I would post and let you know what I found.
Firstly we only had an hour, could have done with longer - I didn't realise they had homeware there.
I bought a nice denim skirt, a pair of pink linen trousers, a pair of flip flops, 2 t-shirts, a belt, a pink floaty babydollish halterneck toppink with silver, a bra and kinickers set and a pair of knickers. I had change from £50.
I think the denim skirt, linen trousers and flip flops will last well and be good summer 'staples'. The t-shirts may not last the summer (but at their prices, who cares?)
I would class myself as a small size 10 and would say the sizes come up a little on the small side though (espec the knickers).
Will defo try and get there again though., wish they had one nearer where I live:)
Answer:
Pleased you got some bargains!!! Mind you, how could you not in Primark
I'm going to the one in Watford on saturday as I haven't been to that store before. I've only been to the Stevenage branch which isn't that great but I have got some great basics in there!
Answer:
I've always found that primark sizes come up too big... i'm an average size 12 for trousers and skirts and always have to get a size 10... mind you the tops come up slightly big in a 12 too but i'm not comfortable with them fitting just right or slightly tight.
I could do with a primark near me, but then I suppose it's pretty good going once every so often and stocking up on a pile of goodies that come to about £20-30... I think it's great you can buy loads and cost very little.
Answer:
Let us know how you get on with the watford one, i'm trying to work out which is the biggest in the London region though i only go once in a blue moon i.e. when i'm going on a hol that requires cheap clothing. So far have been to East Ham - small no homeware and few accessories, Wembly - large think it may be the largest or on par with any other large stores they have.
Anyone know which is the biggest their web site doesn't tell you.
Answer:
Fey... go to the watford one... it's massive and it has all the ranges. It's also surprisingly tidy organised.
