Hmmm - sundresses?

NO.1. Ask :
Hmmm - sundresses?
Hi dudes
Quick straw poll - how do y'all feel a bout sundresses? There are a couple of beautiful ones in the Toast summer catalogue and am getting inspired to make one of very own to cheer me up and get me ready for summer. I'm thinking thin cotton, maybe in a darkish blue or green, maybe with a small pattern, fitted bodice, floaty-out gathered skirt, spaghetti style straps - praps in grosgrain ribbon? I'm thinking of wearing it with flips and a little cardy, in a kind of pseudo-fifties pre-teen type way.....hmm maybe I'm going too far with this...? Could be one of my famous "I should dress more like the French" style lapses...help please! ;)

Re: Hmmm - sundresses?
Sounds great...don't know about everybody else, but I tend to go for pale colours for summer daywear. If you did that, you could wear a thin white summer cardy over the top. I think sundresses can be a very versatile look (they can be made a bit surfery with the right accessories and the right cut of dress).
I think as long as you're not teaming it with Jackie O's, wedge heels and a polka dot headscarf, you won't be subject to sniggers from schoolkids.
Good luck! I shouldn't think you'll have problems making one. If you go for pale though, make sure the fabric is not transparent. That's the fundamental flaw of most summer clothes: everyone can see your knickers!

Some very good points, Madshopper....deffo won't be teaming it with wedges and a polka dot scarf....although have to say I'd quite like some big tortoiseshell Jackie O's this year. Am prolly going to be 'channelling' the Fifties, as that daft book would say, big stylee this summer but obviously need to draw the line somewhere...
Still unsure about colour - paler ones obviously more summery but thought it might be a bit less little-girly if twere a darker colour. Quite like the idea of darkish blue with loads of turquoise jewellery and my tan thong 'lady gladiator' flats from Toppers......oohhh bring on the sunshine..
P.S. It's pissing snowing AGAIN
Answer:
Lauren_Grace - I *love* sundresses. But I love anything summery anyway. I think paired with flip flops and oversize sunglasses and a cute bag (maybe bamboo-handled) they look great. And if its not so hot out a pair of jeans under and a little cardie aswell. I'm lucky that I get to spend quite a bit of time in the S of France so that's what I do anyway when it gets a bit chillier in spring/autumn...
Saw a lovely sundress in Mango on Regent St at the weekend - white with seafoam green piping and some coloured spots on it. Was almost sold out - they only had one or two left, but maybe in some other Mango stores they might still have it. Dark or pale is really up to you as to how comfortable you feel in those colours. If the pale colours make you feel too 'girly' then maybe a darker shade would suit you better.
Answer:
Lbs - sounds like we're going to be doing a fairly similar look this summer! Haven't actually hunted around the shops for a sundress as quite fancy having a project and making my own but will see if I can get to Mango for some inspiration. Not sure what the dress I've got in my mind would look like over jeans - I'm thinking nipped-in waist and gathered skirt, rather than hip-skimming type thing - but will deffo add that to the mix and see what I come up with - sooo excited about summer!
Ooooh and lucky you in the S of F - whereabouts?

Where can I buy a bra that'll look good under a halterneck dress?
    Hello fashionistas
I have a berluddy gorgeous new blue halterneck dress but no bra. This is a bad situation as I would look indecent sans bra (though Mr S would disagree :flirt: )
Soooo... any ideas where I can get a suitable brassiere from, gals? I've always avoided halternecks because of the bra situation but that's just silly!
    Thanks
    Slinky
    Answer:
MS do a multiway plunge bra that can go halterneck, there's also a clear plastic strip between cups so you can go for plunge-y tops. I have this bra in white, nude and black because it's so good.
    Answer:
    Fantastic! Thanks Catfish :)
    Answer:
Heheh! I got two of those MS multiway things - they're fab.
    Thanks, Catfish:)

Help. It is soooo cold, I need to buy a hat and went out to have a look but all the shops are selling jaunty rain hats and even sun hats. But no nice woolly, keep your ears warm type hats. Has anyone seen any anywhere? Specifically, I am looking for a wool/felt/something soft cloche type hat, pref i black.
Grrrr. Why do shops do this? All the spring/summer clothes are in and yet it's -2 degrees here today.
    Answer:
Some Accesorize branches have hats left in their sales.
    Answer:
    I know! Ridiculous.
And by the time it's warm enough to actually wear them, we'll all be sick of our gypsy skirts and vests.

Would a wrap dress look good with Cowboy boots?
    For evening?
I haven't bought either yet but cowboy boots are on my list of things to buy coz I think they look great worn over jeans. I also thought of buying a wrap dress to wear to a party on Friday. I think they would look cool together, what do you think?
    Shell
    Answer:
    Yes :)
I love cowboy boots with gypsy skirts and wrap dresses, more so than with jeans, which looks nice too :)
I was going to buy some cb boots too, but saw a pair of brown leather stack heeled round toes boots and bought them instead :D thought I'd get more wear out of them.
I am looking for a wrap dress too, that doesn't make me look 9 months pregnant... I have a black wrap cotton cardi think I might just economise and wear that with a black knee length flowy skirt! :D
    Answer:
    Cool, thanks!
I haven't decided on the colours yet, and I wasn't anticipating it being too hard to find a wrap dress, although reading on another thread maybe it is! I did see a nice one in a mag from Etam, so that'll be my first stop.
For the boots I wanted a nice tan colour but I think maybe a dark brown would go with more, go with the dress better anyway.
Shopping trip on thurs eve, can't wait!
    Answer:
Phew, I'm glad the cowboy boots/wrap dress combo gets the thumbs up 'coz that's exactly what I'm wearing today :D
Actually its a black cashmere vest, black wrap dress, chunky cream waistcoaty thing (Designed for Topshop, rather funky), thick diamond patterned tights and multi-coloured snakeskin R Soles boots - not taking any risks with the cold.
    Answer:
I hope so, I do that a few times a week!!
